GMR Infrastructure Ltd has announced that the passengers arriving today at Indira Gandhi International Airport's International Terminal (Terminal 2) were in for a pleasant surprise with the opening of a brand new chain of duty free stores. Alpha Future welcomed customers to its first duty free shops in India offering an unparalleled collection of duty free items. Bigger than ever before - the duty free shops at IGI Airport present passengers with an exciting new duty free shopping experience.
Some of the world's most famous brands have now arrived at the Delhi airport. Earlier, Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL) had awarded the Duty Free Shopping Contract for Indira Gandhi International Airport to 'Alpha-Pantaloon Consortium'. The consortium comprises the UK based Alpha Airports Group Plc and Pantaloon Retail (India) Ltd, a Future Group venture. The value of the contract for DIAL is at least Rs 500 crore. The term of the contract is 3.25 years.
Speaking on the development, Mr. G M Rao - Chairman, GMR Group said, "We are extremely pleased on the opening of the new duty free shops by Alpha Future consortium at the Delhi Airport. Their extensive experience across the globe and in the country matches DIAL's vision for providing world class experience to travellers at the Delhi Airport.".
The new Alpha Future duty free shops will run from one outlet in Arrivals and four in Departures covering an area, in total, of about 8,000 square feet. The range includes products never before seen in duty free at Delhi, with key product categories being liquor and tobacco; perfume and cosmetics; fashion and accessories; and confectionary.
With a range of over 200 product lines in the Liquor & Tobacco section, Alpha Future brings to India, the widest range of products ever sold at Delhi duty free, including premium Malts and standard whiskies, exclusive Vodkas and a choice of Cognacs.
The new Perfume and Cosmetics section is spread over 900 square feet, and includes a range of must-have beauty essentials and fragrances from leading brands, including Estee Lauder, Chanel, complemented by the offer of makeovers and sampling, creating a new interactive shopping environment for Indian duty free customers.
The fashion and accessories store, covers approx 1100 square feet and offers a range of stylish products from sunglasses and watches, to pens and stationery, as well as crystal ware, fine and fashion jewellery, and men's accessories. The confectionary offer, creates another first for India, with a wide range of over 15 everyday basics as well as exclusive selections of premium fine chocolates.
DIAL is currently in the process of implementing the Master Plan to modernize the Indira Gandhi International Airport into a world class facility. Work on the new integrated passenger terminal and runway is already underway. The runway and a new domestic passenger terminal will be ready in 2008. By 2010, Terminal 3, a world class facility catering to both domestic and international passengers would be ready. Spread across 440,000 square meters this terminal would serve as the gateway to capital of the world's fastest growing economy - India.
