Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has delivered a powerful financial performance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, hitting record numbers across its core operating parameters. The conglomerate recorded a massive 24.5% year-on-year surge in consolidated revenue, crossing the ₹3.4 lakh crore mark, anchored by relentless subscriber growth at Jio, stronger transportation fuel cracks in the Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) segment, and broad-based consumer demand.
Record-Breaking Bottom Line and Financial Overview
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Reliance Industries posted a record recurring consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) and share of associates/JVs of ₹23,196 crore, marking a 6.1% increase compared to ₹21,859 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year (Q1 FY26). On a sequential basis, the profit after tax expanded by 12.6% over the ₹20,589 crore registered in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 (Q4 FY26). Profit before tax for the quarter settled at ₹30,630 crore.
Operationally, the company achieved its highest-ever recurring consolidated EBITDA at ₹54,067 crore, reflecting a strong 10.1% growth over the ₹49,100 crore adjusted baseline from Q1 FY26. The recurring EBITDA margin for the quarter stood at 15.9%.
The expanded operational scale also brought variations across capital cost elements:
Depreciation: Increased by 9.1% year-on-year to ₹15,100 crore, primarily driven by the progressive capitalization of extensive 5G network assets within the digital services business.
Finance Costs: Scaled up by 18.5% annually to ₹8,337 crore, influenced by higher overall liability balances alongside the capitalization of 5G infrastructure.
Taxation: Tax outlays rose 18.0% year-on-year to reach ₹7,629 crore.
Jio Platforms Crosses Half-A-Billion Subscribers as Margins Outpace Expectations
Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) continued its stellar trajectory, reinforcing its market leadership while gaining significant global visibility by emerging as one of the fastest-rising innovators in the World Intellectual Property Organization's (WIPO) PCT Rankings.
JPL's revenue expanded by 12.0% year-on-year, propelled by sustained market share additions, higher Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), and accelerating adoption of its premium digital suites. Even more remarkable was the operational leverage achieved; JPL's EBITDA jumped by 15.1% year-on-year to hit an all-time high of ₹20,865 crore. The company's focus on cost efficiencies pushed its EBITDA margin to a record 53.3%, yielding an impressive 150 basis points expansion over the prior year's period.
Underpinning this growth is a massive user base. Jio's total subscriber network has now scaled past the historic 533 million milestone. Crucially, the premium tier continues to swell, with Jio True5G subscribers now numbering over 285 million, solidifying its position as one of the largest standalone 5G networks globally.
Segmental Operations: Robust O2C Recovery and Retail Resilience
Across the rest of its massive diversified portfolio, Reliance capitalized on shifting global macro environments and deeper domestic penetration:
Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C): The segment experienced a massive top-line jump, with revenue increasing by 30.4% year-on-year. This growth was largely catalyzed by a sharp appreciation in global crude oil prices, which easily offset a lower overall volume of production meant for sale due to a planned turnaround. O2C EBITDA followed suit, climbing 17.2% year-on-year to ₹17,010 crore, supported by stronger global transportation fuel cracks and highly favorable downstream margins, despite facing costlier feedstock sourcing during the period.
Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL): Revenue for the retail powerhouse grew by 7.4% year-on-year to reach ₹90,408 crore. When adjusted for the RCPL demerger, the core growth stood at an even healthier 11.6% annually, driven by expansion across all consumption baskets and the aggressive scaling of Digital Commerce Platforms. RRVL's EBITDA stood at ₹6,309 crore, with margins moderating slightly by 80 basis points to 7.9% as the business deliberately channels capital into building out its digital infrastructure.
Oil and Gas: Segment revenues edged up by 3.2% year-on-year. Higher realizations on KG D6 oil and condensates, coupled with favorable exchange rate fluctuations and boosted Coal Bed Methane (CBM) gas production, helped keep EBITDA stable, successfully countering lower KG D6 gas production volumes.
Optimized Capital Allocation and Balanced Deleveraging
Reliance maintained a disciplined capital deployment framework during the opening quarter. Total capital expenditure for Q1 FY27 reached ₹38,682 crore (excluding spectrum outlays). The conglomerate channeled this capital directly into scaling its fast-growing New Energy initiatives, executing downstream upgrades within the O2C ecosystem, and reinforcing the logistics infrastructure of its consumer businesses.
The group's balance sheet remained highly protected. As of June 30, 2026, outstanding gross debt was reduced to ₹369,705 crore, down from ₹374,421 crore at the close of the previous fiscal year. Supported by cash and cash equivalents of ₹246,791 crore, net debt dropped sequentially to ₹122,914 crore. This balances out to a highly conservative Net Debt-to-EBITDA ratio of just 0.57, positioning the company exceptionally well for its next multi-year growth leg.
Commenting on the results, Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited said: "Reliance has made a steady start to FY27, with all businesses delivering strong operating performance. Our diverse business portfolio has once again demonstrated its resilience in a quarter which witnessed continuing geopolitical tensions and volatile commodity markets.
The Digital Services business continued its growth momentum during the quarter. Jio's performance across mobility, home broadband and enterprise services remained strong, driving healthy earnings growth of 15% Y-o-Y. During the quarter, Jio Platforms Limited filed its DRHP with SEBI, a significant step towards its public listing. The upcoming IPO will be an important milestone in Jio's journey and will give investors an opportunity to participate in India's digital growth story.
Reliance Retail delivered resilient growth this quarter, with steady performance across all consumption formats and channels. Our omni-channel presence continues to serve millions of Indian consumers and I am confident that it is well placed to benefit from India's long term consumption growth.
The consumer products business is growing rapidly with the portfolio of FMCG brands gaining real traction with Indian consumers. RCPL has more than doubled its revenues as compared to the previous year.
The O2C business delivered strong performance during the quarter, supported by all-time high middle distillate cracks and improved downstream petrochemical deltas. This was achieved despite a challenging global energy market backdrop with disrupted supply chains. Our teams navigated this difficult environment with operational agility and ensured adequate availability of essential fuels and materials in the domestic markets.
During the quarter, Moody's Ratings upgraded our foreign currency debt issuances to "Baa1", reflecting underlying strength of our cash flow and financial position.
I remain confident in the underlying strength of our businesses and in the talent and commitment of our people. The start to FY27 gives me reason to be optimistic about the year ahead as we move forward with phased commissioning of new energy projects and unlock value through the Jio IPO."
