Bharat Coking Coal Limited Discloses June 2026 Production Performance; Underground Mining Posts Growth

Coal miner Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has officially released its provisional production and off-take figures for June 2026 and the cumulative April-June period for the financial year 2026-27.

Analysis of Raw Coal Production in June 2026

During the month of June 2026, BCCL recorded a total raw coal production of 2.29 Million Tonnes (Mill Te), showing an 11.8% contraction compared to the 2.60 Mill Te extracted during June 2025. On a progressive year-to-date basis for the first quarter, total raw coal production stood at 6.56 Mill Te, down 27.5% from the 9.04 Mill Te mined during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Production Breakdown by Coal Classification

Coking Coal: Serving as the company's primary output, coking coal extraction for June 2026 stood at 2.17 Mill Te, down 12.5% from the 2.48 Mill Te recorded in June 2025. Cumulative first-quarter production reached 6.21 Mill Te against 8.61 Mill Te in the prior year's period.

Non-Coking Coal: This segment maintained stable monthly volumes, increasing slightly by 2.6% to 0.12 Mill Te in June 2026. The cumulative quarterly output for non-coking coal wrapped up at 0.35 Mill Te.

Production Breakdown by Mining Method

Underground Mines: Deep mining activities displayed positive momentum, with production jumping 24.3% in June 2026 to touch 0.05 Mill Te, up from 0.04 Mill Te last year. The quarterly cumulative output also moved ahead to 0.17 Mill Te.

Opencast Mines: Surface mining operations delivered 2.24 Mill Te for the month, dropping 12.3% from the 2.56 Mill Te achieved in June 2025. The cumulative opencast total for the quarter stood at 6.39 Mill Te.

Washed Coal, Overburden Removal, and Off-Take Status

Beyond primary extraction, the regulatory report highlighted values for processed coal, earthmoving logistics, and market dispatches.

BCCL's production of high-value washed coking coal remained steady during the month at 0.14 Mill Te, registering a negligible decrease of 0.8%. On a progressive quarterly basis, washed coking coal processing improved by 2.4%, climbing to 0.43 Mill Te compared to 0.42 Mill Te in the first quarter of the previous year.

Overburden removal-the displacement of topsoil and rock layers required to expose coal seams-stood at 10.84 Million Cubic Meters (Million CuM) for June 2026, dropping 16.1% compared to 12.91 Million CuM in June 2025. The cumulative quarterly overburden displacement reached 31.88 Million CuM.

In terms of market supply, the raw coal off-take for June 2026 held firm, closing out at 2.69 Mill Te, which is virtually flat (a nominal 0.1% change) against the 2.69 Mill Te dispatched in June 2025. The progressive year-to-date off-take for the first quarter reached 7.65 Mill Te, compared to 8.98 Mill Te in the corresponding timeline of the previous year.

Shares of Bharat Coking Coal Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 39.37 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 39.47. The total number of shares traded during the day was 845610 in over 2808 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 40.07 and intraday low of 39.25. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 33430931.00.
