Incident at Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd kills 6 employees, 6 injured

An incident occurred at Godawari Power and Ispat limited (GPIL) due to collapse of refractory of side wall of travel grate of the iron ore pellet plant situated at Siltara Industrial Area, Siltara, Raipur Chhattisgarh on Friday on 26th September, 2025, evening around 5.00 PM during the routine plant inspection activity causing death of 6 employees and injury to 6 other employees working in the vicinity. The injured employees were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Out of 6 injured, 1 employee has already been discharged and the condition of other 5 employees is also stable and hopefully all of them will be discharged duly cured within a week's time.
The management of GPIL deeply mourns the unfortunate death of 6 employees in the incidence. An internal enquiry is being conducted for a thorough investigation and GPIL is committed to taking all necessary measures to prevent reoccurrence of such incident in future. Till the completion of internal enquiry and due diligence to determine the route cause of the incident and till the resetting of the refractory lining in the travel grate of the pellet plant, the operations of the iron ore pellet plant will be closed.
However, the manufacturing activities of other plants of our company such as another pellet plant DRI, SMS, etc. are running uninterrupted and unaffected.
There is an insurance cover for the entire plant. However, the amount of loss/damage could not be ascertained immediately and the same will be intimated in due course. Moreover, a Group Term Life Policy is taken for covering the damage in the form of compensation in the case of death of every employee. Accordingly, there is an insurance cover of Rs.10,00,000 per employee. Similarly there is a Group personal accident policy in which a minimum compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 an maximum upto Rs. 10,00,000 is cover in case of accident.
