HCL Infosystems unveils initiative to create industry ready ICT Professionals

HCL Infosystems Ltd has announced that the Company inaugurated the first HCL Career Development Center (HCL CDC) in Kolkata, under its latest initiative to create highly skilled IT professionals across the country. The Company has ventured into the field of IT career development with an objective to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals from organizations across the country. Earlier in the day, Mr. Debesh Das, Information Technology Minister - Government of West Bengal (WB) formally inaugurated the HCL CDC in Kolkata in the presence of several distinguished guests and senior officials of the Company.

HCL also stated that there would be major thrust on WB with 10 CDCs being planned in the state. In an overall plan to set up 100 HCL CDCs across the country in the next 12 to 15 months. HCL CDCs provide specially designed courses in high-end Software, Hardware and Networking integration to groom students into industry-ready professionals. The Company already has fully operational HCL CDCs in six cities, namely Delhi, Noida, Pune, Coimbatore, Meerut and Agra, and the Company plans to set up similar centres overseas as well.

"The IT boom in India has caused a severe shortage of high-skilled ICT engineers. With HCL CDCs, we hope to play a leadership role in enlarging the talent pool available organizations to deploying IT in India. Our faculty of industry experts and veterans draw upon our over thirty years of HCL experience in IT software, hardware, networking and system integration" said Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Executive Vice President of the Company.

In the world of high end cutting edge technology that we live in today, the students do not have the capabilities on leading edge technology which is so very critical to build the ICT infrastructure in the country. While a lot of emphasis is laid on availability of software engineering it is estimated that the Indian ICT market is over 84,000 crores today out of which 60-70% is hardware and Infrastructure software.

A study by Cisco-IDC estimates that one-third of companies are not able to fill their demand for networking professional. Also according to a estimate by E-Value, there is an estimated annual demand of around 2 lakhs networking professional in the country while the supply is limited to about 60% only. The deficit is further estimated to grow at a CAGR of 21% till 2010.

The technological changes add further to the demand, leading to not only a gap in quantity but a huge qualitative gap as well. Hence the realization and the urgent need to create a robust and sustainable skilled manpower resourcing framework, has resulted in the Company setting up HCL CDCs.

"HCL is offering a three-months full-time and one-year part-time course Network Engineer (HCNE)" Mr. Eswar added.

The course involves 7 modules, 21 projects and 70 online tests as part of the academic curriculum. HCS CDCs also provide for placement support to all their students who excel in their academics and display a remarkable performance during the course. The Company also has plans for introducing short-term modular courses to enhance skills of working professionals, who aspire for faster growth in their respective careers. Most importantly the Company offers the students various flexible payment options.
