GMR Infrastructure Ltd has announced that Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd (DIAL), a subsidiary of the Company, in an effort to enhance passenger comfort and to ensure more efficient aircraft operations, Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) is carrying out work involving two new taxiways U and V. This will facilitate faster runway clearance from Runway 10 side towards the international terminal. The Runway occupancy time will be reduced with increase in its capacity. Since, the holding time for aircraft awaiting clearance to land at Delhi Airport would reduce further; the passengers and airlines will be benefited.
The construction work would require the closure of a portion of taxiway P for aircraft movements between 0800hrs to 2200hrs (non-peak hours) for a period of approximately two months starting March 16, 2007. The proposed alternate taxiing route through the domestic apron for aircraft from International Terminal (Terminal 2) towards runway 28/27 may lead to an additional taxiing time of a few minutes.
However, the taxiway P would be made available everyday during the peak hours of international traffic, i.e. from 2200 hrs to 0800 hrs.
Several rapid exit taxiways on runway 09-27 and 10-28 along with parallel taxiways have been commissioned in the recent past. These help aircraft clear runway faster, which allows following aircraft to land quickly. This in turn reduces waiting time for landing clearance at Delhi Airport. Work on the construction of a third runway equipped with CAT IIIB ILS and a brand new domestic terminal is also underway, and will be operational in 2008.q
