Fermenta Biotech Limited, one of the world's largest manufacturers of Vitamin D3 API, and a growing portfolio of premium-grade nutritional ingredients, green chemistry, APIs and intermediates, today announced that its consolidated revenue (other than from real estate) for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 was INR 124.3 crore, down 12% YoY and flat QoQ; EBITDA (other than from real estate) for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 was INR 22.3 crore, down 37% YoY and 10% QoQ. The year-on-year comparison is set against an exceptionally strong April-June 2025 quarter. Within the current quarter, human nutrition volumes rose 18% sequentially, the domestic market strengthened materially, and every business other than Vitamin D3 - Animal Nutrition grew year-on-year.
On the consolidated basis Q1FY27 revenue (including real estate) was INR 126.2 crore (down 13% YoY and flat QoQ), EBITDA INR 22.4 crore (down 39% YoY and 11% QoQ) and Profit after Tax INR 9.5 crore (down 56% YoY and 49% QoQ). The year-on-year decline in profit after tax is accounted for by three identifiable items in the April-June 2025 base quarter rather than by the core business: a 40% fall in Vitamin D3 - Animal Nutrition realisations; Other Income of INR 8.77 crore against INR 4.37 crore in the current quarter, the base having carried a nonrecurring insurance claim of INR 2.7 crore; and INR 1.6 crore of real estate value-unlocking income, against nil in the current quarter. Unless stated otherwise, all figures in this release are for the April-June 2026 quarter (Q1FY27); year-on-year comparisons are against April-June 2025 (Q1FY26) and quarter-on-quarter comparisons against January-March 2026 (Q4FY26).
Performance highlights
- Human nutrition segment volumes grew 18% QoQ and were down 21% YoY, with revenue of INR 76.5 crore keeping the segment at 61% of consolidated revenue.
- Animal nutrition segment volumes were down 52% QoQ and 20% YoY, with average realisation down 40% YoY.
- Green Chemistry Solutions / Enzymes revenue grew 15% YoY to INR 2.3 crore, as customer acquisitions made over the past year began converting into repeat volumes. Other APIs and Intermediates grew 18% YoY to INR 11.6 crore and the Others line within nutrition grew 28% YoY to INR 11.0 crore.
- Other Income was INR 4.37 crore against INR 8.77 crore a year earlier, down 50% YoY. The base quarter included a non-recurring insurance claim of INR 2.7 crore together with higher foreign exchange gains. Other Income sits above EBITDA and is therefore already reflected in the EBITDA movement reported above.
- Our German subsidiary's Q1FY27 revenue was INR 6.6 crore, down 58% YoY and 41% QoQ, with EBITDA at INR 0.8 crore loss, down INR 5.8 crore YoY and INR 0.9 crore QoQ. Our US trading business subsidiary's Q1FY27 revenue was INR 10.5 crore, down 38% YoY and up 36% QoQ, with EBITDA at INR 0.7 crore loss, down INR 0.3 crore YoY and up INR 0.1 crore QoQ. Our Environment subsidiary's Q1FY27 revenue was INR 6.1 crore, with EBITDA at INR 2.9 crore loss, down INR 1.1 crore QoQ.
- Slow-moving semi-finished inventory used in animal feed production continued to be consumed during the quarter, allowing a further INR 2.0 crore of the write-down previously taken against it to be written back. The write-back is non-cash, reduces the cost of materials consumed, and is included in the reported EBITDA of INR 22.4 crore.
- The one-time exceptional employee-benefit charge of INR 2.19 crore arising from the four new Labour Codes notified by the Government of India on 21 November 2025 was recognised in FY26. The Codes have been implemented in full and the charge does not recur in the April-June 2026 quarter.
- The INR 9.07 crore recovery of amounts previously provided against investment, expense recoverables and trade receivables was reversed and recorded as an exceptional item in FY26. It does not form part of the April-June 2026 result, and the current quarter carries no exceptional items.
- During the quarter, the Company embarked on a nationwide public awareness campaign on Vitamin D deficiency, opening with full-page executions in The Times of India on 14 May 2026 and Mumbai Mirror on 15 May 2026. The Company plans to build on this campaign further during FY27.
- Post quarter-end, VITADEE Green®, Fermenta's plant-source Vitamin D3, received FSSAI approval on 06 July 2026 for use as an ingredient in health supplements, nutraceuticals, food products and large scale food fortification, opening India's large vegetarian consumer base to a domestically manufactured, patent-backed Vitamin D3.
- In June 2026, in the Company's 75th year, Fermenta was ranked 7th nationwide in the Top 50 category of India's Great Mid-size Workplaces™ 2026 by Great Place To Work®, from a field of more than 2,000 participating organisations.
Commenting on the results, Prashant Nagre, Managing Director, said: "This was a quarter of building rather than harvesting. The year-on-year arithmetic sits against an exceptionally strong April-June 2025 base and does not describe the direction of the business. Human nutrition volumes rose 18% over the preceding quarter, India moved to 47% of consolidated revenue from 35% a year ago, and every business other than animal nutrition grew.
Other APIs and Intermediates grew 18% year-on-year. Green Chemistry Solutions and Enzymes 15%, and the Others line within nutrition 28%. These are smaller businesses today, but they are growing on their own customer wins. Animal nutrition remains the soft spot, with realisations down 40%, and we have chosen volume discipline over chasing a weak price.
Two milestones since the quarter closed give us particular confidence. In July, VITADEE Green® received FSSAI approvalfor use in health supplements, nutraceuticals, food products and food fortification, taking the plant-source Vitamin D3 developed and manufactured in India directly to Indian formulators. And in June, in our 75th year, Fermenta was ranked 7th nationwide among India's Great Mid-size Workplaces™ 2026. With commercial-scale plantbased Vitamin D3 capacity coming up at Dahej, we remain focused on scaling our core human nutrition business while broadening the earnings base."
