Sun Pharma Delivers Robust Performance in Q1 FY27: Consolidated Sales Surge 10.1% to ₹151,836 Million

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited has announced its financial results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026. Powered by significant domestic market momentum and expanding global innovative medicine footprint, the company posted a double-digit top-line expansion alongside stable profitability metrics.

Consolidated Operational Highlights

During the first quarter of FY27, Sun Pharma recorded sales of ₹151,836 million, reflecting a 10.1% growth compared to ₹137,860.7 million in Q1 FY26. Total consolidated revenue from operations (including other operating revenues) reached ₹152,998.8 million, while total income stood at ₹160,235.0 million, supported by ₹7,236.2 million in other income.

The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the quarter reached ₹44,177 million, registering a 2.7% increase year-over-year with an EBITDA margin of 28.9%.

Key Consolidated Financial Metrics

Profit Before Tax (PBT): Recorded at ₹40,988.1 million (after accounting for ₹2,040.9 million in exceptional items), compared to ₹31,727.7 million in Q1 FY26 (which included ₹8,180.0 million in exceptional items).

Net Profit: Reported net profit after taxes, share of profit of associates and joint ventures, and non-controlling interests reached ₹28,947.9 million, up from ₹22,786.3 million in Q1 FY26.

Adjusted Net Profit: Stood at ₹30,894 million, representing a 3.1% year-over-year increase.

Total Comprehensive Income: Surged to ₹44,103.8 million, compared to ₹24,202.9 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Earnings Per Share (EPS): Basic and diluted EPS were both recorded at ₹12.1 per equity share of ₹1 face value (not annualized), compared to ₹9.5 in Q1 FY26.

Research & Development (R&D) Spending: Total R&D investment for the quarter was ₹8,263.5 million (5.4% of sales), with revenue R&D expenditure at ₹8,076.6 million and capital R&D expenditure at ₹186.9 million.

Segment-Wise Formulation Performance

The company's growth was predominantly driven by strong performances in the domestic market and global innovative medicines, which helped cushion headwinds in generic offerings.

Domestic Formulations

India Formulations Sales: Reached ₹54,748.9 million, achieving a 16% growth compared to ₹47,211.0 million in Q1 FY26. Domestic formulations accounted for 36.1% of total consolidated sales.

Market Position: Sun Pharma maintained its position as India's leading pharmaceutical company with a market share of 8.5% (up from 8.2% as per Pharmarack MAT June-2026). According to the SMSRC report (Mar-Jun 2026), the company secured the No. 1 rank by prescriptions across 12 doctor categories. Five new products were introduced in India during the quarter.

Global & Regional Formulations

Global Innovative Medicines: Generated US$ 351 million, marking a 12.8% growth year-over-year and accounting for 21.9% of total sales.

US Formulations: Revenue stood at US$ 427 million (₹40,419.1 million), down 9.7% compared to the prior year, as ongoing momentum in innovative medicines was offset by declines in the generic business. US operations comprised 26.6% of total consolidated sales.

Emerging Markets (EM): Formulation sales reached US$ 311 million (₹29,456.3 million), registering a 4.2% increase and representing 19.4% of total sales.

Rest of World (ROW): Sales reached US$ 218 million (₹20,685.8 million), accounting for 13.6% of total sales.

Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API): External API sales rose 10.5% to ₹5,972.3 million, up from ₹5,403.7 million in Q1 FY26.

Standalone Financial Results

On a standalone basis, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited reported total revenue from operations of ₹57,411.3 million for Q1 FY27, up from ₹55,948.8 million in Q1 FY26. Total income stood at ₹58,813.0 million.

Standalone Profit Before Tax: Reached ₹14,864.5 million (after ₹315.3 million in exceptional items), compared to ₹11,762.6 million in Q1 FY26.

Standalone Profit for the Period: Totaled ₹11,151.4 million, up from ₹7,450.6 million in Q1 FY26.

Standalone Total Comprehensive Income: Reached ₹12,594.7 million.

Standalone EPS: Basic and diluted EPS stood at ₹4.6 per share.

Strategic Developments and R&D Pipeline

Commenting on the quarterly results, Kirti Ganorkar, Managing Director, highlighted the key drivers behind the performance:

"Our performance during the quarter was driven by strong momentum in India as well as Innovative Medicines, which delivered robust growth across the U.S. and international regions. Recent semaglutide approvals in India, Brazil and South Africa underscore our capabilities in developing complex peptide products for patients globally. Organon shareholders have approved the proposed acquisition by Sun, which is on track to close in early 2027."

Product Pipeline & Regulatory Status

Innovative Pipeline: Includes five novel entities currently in clinical stages.

US Generic Filings: The company holds 558 approved ANDAs for the US market, with 119 ANDAs awaiting US FDA approval (including 28 tentative approvals). During Q1 FY27, 3 ANDAs were filed and 6 approvals were received.

New Drug Applications: Sun's portfolio features 57 approved NDAs, with 13 NDAs awaiting US FDA approval.
