Automotive major Eicher Motors Limited has released the monthly sales volume data for its unlisted subsidiary, VE Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV), for May 2026. The joint venture recorded total sales (inclusive of electric vehicles) of 7,978 units during the month, achieving a 7.8% growth compared to the 7,401 units sold in May 2025.
The growth was primarily anchored by robust domestic demand for light, medium, and heavy-duty cargo trucks, offsetting soft patches in bus volumes and international exports.
Domestic Performance Highlights
VECV's total domestic sales scaled up by 9.1% in May 2026 to reach 7,375 units, rising from 6,758 units in the same month last year.
Light and Medium Duty (LMD) Trucks: The domestic small commercial vehicle (SCV) and LMD truck segment (<18.5T) acted as the main growth engine, surging 16.1% to 3,757 units from 3,236 units.
Heavy Duty (HD) Trucks: Heavy cargo trucks (≥18.5T) maintained strong upward momentum, growing 7.9% to register 1,620 units compared to 1,502 units last year.
Bus Segment: Domestic bus dispatches presented a mixed picture. LMD buses held completely flat at 1,886 units (up 0.1%), while heavy-duty (HD) buses faced a sharp 17.6% drop, falling to 112 units from 136 units in May 2025.
Cumulatively, total domestic volumes under the Eicher brand reached 14,172 units for the fiscal year-to-date (YTD) period of April-May 2026-27, marking an 8.9% expansion over the previous fiscal's starting performance.
Volvo Trucks & Buses and Export Headwinds
The ultra-premium Volvo Trucks and Buses vertical achieved significant acceleration, with monthly volumes jumping 32.2% to 189 units in May 2026, up from 143 units in the corresponding month of the prior year.
However, the international export front encountered macro challenges. Total VECV exports slipped 17.2% to 414 units, down from 500 units in May 2025. This contraction was driven by a 69.5% collapse in outbound bus shipments (36 units) and an 11.4% decline in LMD trucks (256 units), despite a bright spot in heavy-duty truck exports which grew 31.2% to 122 units.
Year-to-Date (YTD) Snapshot
Reflecting steady cumulative tracking, VECV's combined year-to-date sales for the April-May 2026-27 period climbed 7.4% to settle at 15,296 units against 14,247 units in the prior fiscal's corresponding stretch. Total YTD brand performance for Eicher trucks and buses stands at 14,948 units, while the Volvo portfolio accounts for 348 units of the cumulative mix.
