Ashok Leyland Reports 14,923 Unit Sales in May 2026; Cumulative Volumes Up 2%

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland Limited has announced its sales performance figures for May 2026. The company registered total sales (Domestic + Exports) of 14,923 units during the month, representing a 4% decline compared to the 15,484 units sold in May 2025.

While the heavy commercial vehicle segment experienced temporary slowdowns, the company's Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) portfolio maintained a strong double-digit growth trajectory both in domestic and export markets.

Domestic Market Performance

In its home market, Ashok Leyland's total domestic dispatches dipped slightly by 3% year-on-year to settle at 14,148 units, down from 14,534 units recorded in May 2025.

Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) Trucks: Domestic truck dispatches slid 5% to 7,065 units compared to 7,466 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

M&HCV Buses: The bus segment experienced a sharper slowdown, with domestic sales dropping 35% to 1,255 units from 1,920 units previously. This dragged total domestic M&HCV volumes down by 11% to 8,320 units.

Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV): Countering the heavy vehicle drop, the LCV segment remained a bright spot, posting a healthy 13% expansion with sales climbing to 5,828 units over the 5,148 units clocked last May.

Consolidated Sales (Domestic + Exports)

When accounting for international shipments, the overall vehicle segment data for May 2026 highlighted similar trends:

Total M&HCV Portfolio: Combined truck and bus sales fell 13% to 8,966 units against 10,282 units in May 2025. Total cargo trucks recorded 7,331 units (down 4%), while buses concluded the month at 1,635 units (down 39%).

Total LCV Portfolio: Consolidated LCV shipments registered a strong 15% increase, moving up to 5,957 units compared to 5,202 units in the same month last fiscal year.

Financial Year-to-Date (YTD) Cumulative Progress

Despite the marginal drop in monthly numbers, Ashok Leyland maintained a positive growth trajectory for the cumulative April-May 2026 period. Total sales for the first two months of the fiscal year 2026-27 edged up 2% to reach 29,569 units, compared to 28,905 units in the corresponding prior period.

On a cumulative basis, total domestic vehicle sales advanced 5% to 28,390 units. This YTD resilience was backed by a 4% cumulative increase in total truck dispatches (14,338 units) and an overall 15% surge in total LCV volumes, which climbed to 12,301 units for the financial year so far.

Shares of Ashok Leyland Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 149.80 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 155.45. The total number of shares traded during the day was 1976022 in over 25252 trades.
