In a strategic move to bolster its specialized healthcare services, Global Health Limited (GHL), the parent company of Medanta, has officially announced the acquisition of a specialized cancer care hospital in Indore. The decision was formalized during a Board of Directors meeting held on Monday, April 27, 2026.
Strategic Expansion in Central India
The Board has approved the execution of a Business Transfer Agreement (BTA) to acquire a 79-bed advanced super-specialty hospital currently owned and operated by the Asian Institute of Oncology Private Limited (AIOPL).
This facility is strategically significant due to its location; it situated just 500 meters from the existing Medanta facility in Indore. This proximity is expected to facilitate seamless integration and create strong operational synergies between the two units.
Transaction Details and Financials
The acquisition is structured as a 100% control transfer of the business undertaking for a total cash consideration of Rs. 30 crores. Global Health Limited plans to fund this investment through a mix of debt funding and internal accruals.
Key highlights of the transaction include:
Target Asset: A purpose-built facility primarily focused on oncology services.
Capacity Growth: The addition of 79 beds will supplement Medanta's existing network capacity, which stood at 3,579 beds as of March 31, 2026.
Real Estate: The deal involves the assignment of an existing lease deed and the execution of a fresh lease for an additional 1,700 sq. ft. of space within the facility.
Timeline: While the long stop date for the agreement is set for September 30, 2026, the company expects to conclude the acquisition much earlier, subject to standard regulatory and statutory approvals regarding the change of ownership.
Enhancing Specialized Care
The primary objective of this acquisition is to address the specialty gap in oncology within the region. By integrating this specialized center into its network, Medanta aims to strengthen its portfolio of tertiary and quaternary care services.
The hospital reported a turnover of Rs. 19.9 million for the financial year 2024-25. GHL has clarified that this is not a related party transaction, as AIOPL has no prior affiliation with the company's promoters or group entities.
This expansion aligns with Medanta's ongoing mission to scale its healthcare infrastructure across its key hubs in Gurugram, Indore, Ranchi, Lucknow, Patna, and Noida.
