Zen Technologies Secures ₹108 Crore MoD Order

Zen Technologies, an IDDM-compliant indigenous defense technology company, has been awarded a major contract from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, totalling ₹108 crores (including GST) for tank crew gunnery training simulators.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Ashok Atluri, Chairman and Managing Director, Zen Technologies, said, "This ₹108 crore order represents more than business growth-it's validation of indigenous R&D done right. Over a decade ago, we supplied our first tank simulators to the Indian Army. Back then, procurement systems weren't built to support single indigenous vendors. Today, this order proves what's possible when policy protects genuine Indian IP. A TERI study showed that just 15% penetration of crew gunnery simulators saves ₹1,123 crore annually for our armed forces-that's an 18:1 return on investment of ₹61 crore. These aren't just training tools; they're force multipliers that free up resources for more capability building. Operation Sindoor reminded us: procurement speed matters. The faster we can deploy indigenous solutions, the stronger we become."

This procurement is a direct outcome of the Ministry of Defence's Simulation Framework released in September 2021, which recognized simulation-based training as a strategic priority for force modernization. However, this order represents just the initial phase of a much larger requirement. To fully realize the framework's objectives of comprehensive simulation-based training across all three services, the armed forces will need to scale deployments significantly beyond current levels. The potential demand is substantial-as the government systematically expands simulator penetration to meet the framework's vision, indigenous companies like Zen Technologies with proven IDDM capabilities will be critical to delivering this transformation at scale.

Training simulators have become a critical pillar of modern defence preparedness, offering armed forces a safe, repeatable, and highly realistic environment to practice mission-critical skills. From individual weapon handling to complex multi-unit operations, simulators replicate battlefield conditions with precision, allowing soldiers to experience high-stress scenarios without the risks or logistical challenges of live training. With advancements in AI, AR, and data-driven modelling, simulators now mirror real-world threats, terrains, and adversary behaviours, enabling soldiers to build muscle memory, sharpen decisionmaking, and accelerate their overall readiness.

Tank Crew Gunnery Simulator: The Crew Gunnery Simulator (CGS) is a high-fidelity training system for tank commanders and gunners. It fully replicates the tank's turret compartment, including sights, control panels, instruments, and indicators. It supports realistic gunnery drills, manual and stabilization modes, ammunition selection (APFSDS, HEAT, HE), loading methods, laser range-finder use, and manual rangesetting. The system enables target acquisition and engagement, including lead calculation for moving targets, lasing, and firing the main gun or machine gun. The simulator is containerized for easy transport, or can be installed fixed, and consists of: an instructor station (with displays, joystick, intercom), a trainee cabin (mock turret, seats, realistic controls, OTW visuals), and a motion platform that simulates vehicle dynamics (such as slope, recoil).
