Suzlon Group, India's No.1 Wind Energy Solutions provider, has achieved a new sustainability milestone with its Made in India wind turbine model, the S144, recording the Lowest Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of just 6.17 gCO₂ per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity generated in the Cradle to Grave boundary. This achievement has been independently verified by Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS), a trusted certification and testing organization with over three decades of expertise. The verification was carried out in line with leading international standards, including ISO/IEC 17029:2019 for validation and verification principles, ISO 14067:2018 for product carbon footprint requirements, and ISO 14021:2016 + Amd 1:2021 for environmental labels and self-declared environmental claims.
Recently, TÜV SÜD Poland, a globally renowned 150-year-old certification and testing organization, also verified S144 as a low-carbon footprint wind solution under internationally recognised standards ISO 14067 and ISO 14021 + Amd 1:2021.
The S144's lowest carbon footprint is the result of several integrated sustainability measures undertaken across its design, optimization of resources for manufacturing, local sourcing, use of Green Steel, and renewable energy. Suzlon has redesigned the turbine to cut steel use by ~2.5 times, incorporating recycled steel and scrap, while sourcing 83.25% of components locally from Tier-1 Indian suppliers. The use of low-carbon steel (<2.2 t CO₂e/t of production) and renewable energy in manufacturing has further reduced emissions drastically. Additionally, Suzlon has been able to enhance the product lifecycle to 25 years, delivering long-term performance and advancing India's clean energy goals.
Mr. JP Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, Suzlon Group, added, "True Sustainability leadership means embedding sustainability into organizational process, product level, and across the value chain-not treating it as an add-on. At Suzlon, this has been our philosophy for over 30 years. The S144's independently verified lowest carbon footprint reflects this commitment, showing how responsible design, sourcing, and manufacturing can deliver real impact. With the S144, we prove that world-class clean energy can be designed and built sustainably in India. Our next step is to move from lowest-carbon manufacturing to true circularity, setting new benchmarks for the renewable energy industry".
