Indian markets plunged further on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve chairman Bernanke on Wednesday indicated tapering of stimulus measures in near-term. Moreover, Rupee fell to a life time low near 60 against the dollar at CCIL. Rate-sensitive stocks led the drop in the market.
Nifty closed at 5655.90 down by 166.35points or 2.86% over the previous day closing of 5822.25 after witnessing a low of 5645.65 and a high of 5755.00. Sensex closed at 18719.29 down by 526.41 points or 2.74% over the previous day closing of 19245.70.It touched an intraday low of 18687.19 and high of 19069.20.
The markets' breadth was negative. Out of 2412 stocks traded 654 stocks advanced, 1647 stocks declined and 111 stocks remained unchanged. In Sensex, Out of 30 stocks 02 stocks advanced and 28 stocks declined.
Among the sectors, BSE Realty, BSE Metal and BSE Bankex were the main losers of the day which decreased by 5.18 %, 4.63% and 3.98% respectively.
In BSE Realty sector, Indiabulls Real estate, DLF and HDIL decreased by 9.15%, 7.17% and 6.10% respectively. In BSE Metal sector Jindal Steel, Tata Steel and Hindalco Inds declined by 9.62%,6.25% and 6.24% respectively. In BSE Bankex Union Bank, Bank of India and BOB decreased by 7.46% 7.14% and 6.24% respectively.
