Indian stock markets dances to the tunes of bulls & bears

There was blood on Indian Stock Exchanges - Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange as investors booked profits across the board for the second consecutive day after the recent surge in the markets. But, the markets recovered to close higher than its previous close.

In NIFTY, out of 50 stocks there were 26 gainers and 24 losers. In BSE Sensex, out of 30 stocks 14 were gainers and 16 were losers. BSE Sensex closed higher by 51.53 points to close at 11873.73. Sensex swinged around 1000 points during the day hiting an intraday low of 11378.96 and high of 11954.51 after opening at 11861.18.

NIFTY hit an intraday high of 3543.5 and low of 3382.4 before closing at 3523.3, up by 20.35 points.

Gujarat Ambuja Cement was the major gainer in NIFTY with the stock closing at Rs.108.8, up by 7.56% over its previous close of Rs.101.15. The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.109.9 and low of Rs.97.05. 15983127 shares were traded during the day aggregating Rs.16672 Lakhs.

Dabur India was the second major gainer in NIFTY with the stock closing up by 5.46% at Rs.161.2. 2803223 shares of Dabur India changed hands during the day resulting in a turnover of Rs.4424.05 Lakhs. Dabur India touched an intraday low of Rs.148 before hitting an intraday high of Rs.165.9. Dabur India regained most of the losses suffered on Monday, when the stock was down by 10.4%.

ACC (Rs.904.35, up by 4.81%) and IPCL (Rs.265.2, up by 4.25%) were the other major gainers in NIFTY closing higher by 4%. SAIL closed the day at Rs.88.1, up by 3.65%. The stock had a turnover of Rs.13440.53 Lakhs during the day with 15832875 shares changing hands. The stock hit a high of Rs.89.4 and low of Rs.80.65 during the day.

Bajaj Auto (Rs.3141.65, up by 3.37%), Hindustan Lever (Rs.270.65, up by 3.22%), Hindalco (Rs.216.2, up by 3.15%) were the other major gainers.

Grasim, M & M, Reliance Industries closed higher by more than 2% during the day.

Punjab National Bank was the major loser in NIFTY with the stock closing lower by 3.3% at Rs.454.7. 442515 shares were traded in NSE resulting in a turnover of Rs.2017.43 Lakhs. The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.470 and low of Rs.448.75.

Oriental Bank of Commerce (Rs.232.5, down by 2.98%), L&T (Rs.2631.75, down by 2.75%), Tata Chemicals (Rs.244.85, down by 2.55%), ABB (Rs.2933.3, down by 2.17%), Glaxo (Rs.1279.9, down by 2.11%), Tata Steel (Rs.574.25, down by 2.11%) were the other major losers in NIFTY.
