Satyam Computer Services Ltd (NYSE: SAY) has announced that the Company on April 26, 2007 has opened a 150-seat development center in North Sydney. The facility, which will serve as a Regional Solutions Hub, demonstrates the Company's commitment to Australia (it also has development centers in Melbourne, and at York Street in the Sydney Central Business District), as well as its continuous efforts to bolster its Virtual Global Delivery Model.
P P Shukla, High Commissioner of India, and B Rama Raju, the Company's co-founder and chief executive officer, officially opened the center at a ceremony this afternoon.
"Australia is an important marketplace for Satyam, and this new center will offer the same expertise and project management capabilities typified by our Australian operations. These capabilities will provide customers throughout the region with the improved agility and responsiveness they need to excel in a competitive business environment," Raju.
The opening is the latest in a series of regionally focused Company's investments, including a recent agreement with the government in Nanjing to build a 2,500-seat development campus, which will serve both multinational and domestic Chinese customers. Like the one in China, the new Sydney solution center will be able to provide onshore and offshore services to regional clients due to the availability of mature communication end IT talent here.
In addition, the Company signed an agreement with the Australian Computer Society earlier this week. ACS Foundation will search Australian universities to help the Company find and develop exceptional information technology professionals.
The Company will hire 50 graduates over the next three months to work in the center, and another 50 in the following year. Those additions will bring the Company's Australian workforce to 700, an illustration of its determination to steady and significant growth in the country. The Company's business in Australia has grown exponentially since 2001, when it began work in Sydney with 10 associates, Today, with a presence in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Brisbane - the latter two are sales offices-the Company helps transform the business of leading Australian organizations across Industries.
