Department of Tourism confers National Tourism Award 2005-06 for Best Eco Friendly Hotel to Hotel Leelaventure, Bangalore

Hotel Leelaventure Ltd has announced that Government of India, Department of Tourism has conferred the National Tourism Award 2005-06, to the Company's hotel at Bangalore i.e. "The Leela Palace Kempinski, Bangalore", under the category of Best Eco Friendly Hotel.

The Leela Palaces Hotels - Resorts has won yet another accolade for its environmentally friendly hotels. The Leela Palace, Kempinski, Bangalore often described as the best performing city hotel in India has been adjudged as the best eco friendly five star deluxe hotel in the country by the Government of India. The Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Ambika Soni presented the National Tourism Awards for 2005-2006 to Vice Chairman and Managing Director of The Leela group, Mr. Vivek Nair at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi on January 25, 2007.

Like other Leela hotels in Mumbai, Goa and Kovalam which have virtually created islands of greenery. The Leela Palace in Bangalore has made this garden city even more proud, evoking the architectural glory of the royal palace of Mysore amidst acres of lush green landscaped gardens.

For the Leela Palace, Bangalore winning awards is not new. It was selected by the Forbes magazine as one of the eight best new business hotels in the world and has also bagged the prestigious CNN Ultimate Service Award twice, an award that celebrates global excellence in hospitality.

The Leela Group Chairman, Capt. C P Krishnan Nair whose zeal for creating green neighbourhoods has not only seen him winning the Global 500 Laureate Roll of Honour from the United Nations Environment Programme, received in the presence of His Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan, but has also lead to the eco award twice from Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry for creating an green belt for around the airports in Mumbai by planting thousands of trees. Infact, Capt Nair and his wife Mrs. Leela Nair personally buy exotic samplings from all over the world including Hawaii, California, Thailand, Singapore and Sri Lanka and plant them in their nurseries. The plants are later transplanted to the Leela gardens and surroundings of the international and national airports.

The Leela group's love for nature has constantly won it several awards which include The Green Hotelier Award from the International Hotel and Restaurant Association, Paris, Pata Gold Award for excellence in Corporate Environmental Programme, V P Menon award for environment initiatives, Maharana Udai Singh Award for distinguished services in the field of environment and Corporate Environmental Achievement award from 6th World Wilderness Congress.

According to Capt. Nair, "The National award for the best eco friendly hotel will encourage us to create green havens in our five new hotels in the making at Gurgaon-Delhi NCR, Udaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. Ultimately the green ambience will only add value to customer experience at each of our splendid properties" he adds.
