HCL Technologies Integrates cross-cultural requirements with Japan through specially created language training module

HCL Technologies Ltd has announced that the Company along with the Nihongobashi Institute for Japanese learning, presented certificates of Japanese Language Proficiency, to the second batch of 24 newly recruited engineers in the Company, at Chennai on November 15, 2006. The event was graced by Honorable Yuji Okada Consulate of Japan, who gave away the certificates to the current batch of trained engineers. The new hires recruited from prominent institutions in India, complete their 12 months training program with the Company by the Nihongobashi training Institute.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gunaseelan Narayanan, Senior Corporate Vice President, of the Company said, "The Japan Delivery Unit (JDU) at HCL exclusively caters to our Japanese customers. This cross cultural training program at JDU aims at equipping our engineers with relevant language and cultural skills, apart from their technical knowledge, to provide smooth workflow integration at Client side engagements. Our engineers working at Japan are now in a better position to service Japanese clients as they would understand the culture and communicate better, transforming transactional business to enhanced relationships with our clients. This further enforces our 10 years of commitment to the Japanese market."

The newly recruited engineers, enrolling for the course will undergo a customized education and orientation program on campus, following which they would be assigned on various Japanese projects which would also include client side engagement. All employees are also given in-house sensitization training, that would include study of Japanese characters and exposure to Japanese work culture by specialized project leads and managers with rich global experience and understanding of cross - cultural work life.

The Company began this program in Chennai for entry level software engineers, after a successful pilot program devised for professionals recruited from premier schools in the NCR region who graduated earlier this year and are placed in various client facing development projects.

The initiative serves as a strong platform for the Company to strengthen its global presence, in terms of wider access into Japan’s IT market, which is one of the world’s larger and more complex markets.
