Private sector lender Axis Bank Limited has registered strong double-digit growth across its lending and deposit books for the first quarter of the 2027 financial year, according to its provisional operational update released ahead of its official earnings announcement.
Balanced Credit and Deposit Trajectories
Axis Bank maintained an even pace between its asset generation and liability mobilization, expanding both core portfolios by over 18% on a year-over-year (YoY) basis:
- Gross Advances: The bank's closing loan book climbed to ₹12,729 billion (₹12.73 trillion) as of June 30, 2026. This represents an 18.8% YoY growth compared to the ₹10,719 billion recorded in June 2025, and a steady 2.3% expansion quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) from March 2026's base of ₹12,443 billion.
- Total Closing Deposits: Period-end deposit lines tracked in parallel, growing 18.2% YoY to land at ₹13,729 billion. Sequentially, closing deposits increased 2.8% over the March 2026 position of ₹13,358 billion.
Structural Migration Toward High-Yield Term DepositsThe composition of Axis Bank's liabilities indicates an ongoing shift among savers toward fixed-term products over liquid checking accounts, affecting sequential closing metrics:
Term Deposits Surge: Period-end term deposits led the momentum, jumping 22.8% YoY and 5.5% sequentially to close at ₹8,512 billion. Average quarterly term deposits similarly showed robust traction, climbing 21.0% YoY to ₹8,234 billion.
CASA Variations: Liquid funds under Current Account and Savings Accounts (CASA) showed long-term strength, increasing 11.4% YoY to ₹5,217 billion. However, reflecting typical first-quarter seasonality, closing CASA balances compressed 1.4% sequentially from March 2026's level of ₹5,289 billion.
Average CASA Strength: Demonstrating a healthy aggregate accumulation across the full three-month period, the quarterly average CASA balance expanded 13.5% YoY and 5.1% QoQ to settle at ₹4,814 billion.
Volume Metrics Summary
The bank's total quarterly average deposit base reached ₹13,048 billion for Q1 FY27, accelerating 18.1% over the ₹11,049 billion average from Q1 FY26.
