JSW Steel has released its consolidated crude steel production performance for April 2026, reporting a total output of 21.18 lakh tonnes. The figures reflect a marginal decline of 1% compared to the adjusted production numbers from the same period last year.
Production Performance Summary
The company's domestic and international wings showed slight variations in output:
Indian Operations: Production stood at 20.40 lakh tonnes, down 1% from the 20.56 lakh tonnes recorded in April 2025.
JSW Steel USA (Ohio): The US operations produced 0.78 lakh tonnes, marking a 7% decrease compared to the 0.84 lakh tonnes produced in April 2025.
Consolidated Total: The combined output of 21.18 lakh tonnes represents a slight cooling of production compared to the previous year's 21.40 lakh tonnes.
It is important to note that the year-on-year (YoY) comparisons have been adjusted to reflect recent structural changes within the company.
In March 2026, the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL), a subsidiary of JSW Steel, was transferred to JSW-JFE Steel Limited (a joint venture company) on a slump-sale basis. To provide an accurate "apples-to-apples" comparison, JSW Steel has retroactively reduced the production figures of the transferred BPSL undertaking from the April 2025 data.
Despite the marginal 1% dip, the 21.18 lakh tonne output indicates a steady operational baseline for the steel giant as it navigates a restructured portfolio in the 2026-27 financial year. The decline in the USA (Ohio) unit suggests continued market or operational volatility in the North American region, while Indian operations remain the primary driver of the company's consolidated volume.
The steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL), a subsidiary of the Company, was transferred on a slump-sale basis to JSW-JFE Steel Limited (JV company) in March 2026. The production figures relating to the transferred undertaking have been reduced from previous year's numbers for comparison.
Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at Vijayanagar is under shutdown for upgradation of capacity impacting Crude Steel production at Indian operations level. Production growth, excluding BF3 production from last year's base, was about 10% driven by full ramp-up of JVML operations.
The capacity utilisation for Indian operations for the month excluding BF3 capacity was at ~94% and including BF3 capacity was at 83%.
