One 97 Communications Limited (OCL), the parent entity of Paytm, has issued a formal clarification to stock exchanges following a major regulatory development involving its associate entity, Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL).
The company confirmed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the banking license of PPBL, effective from the close of business on April 24, 2026.
No Impact on Paytm App or Services
OCL has moved quickly to reassure users and stakeholders that its core services remain fully operational and uninterrupted. The company emphasized that its suite of digital payment and financial services is no longer dependent on PPBL.
The following services continue to operate normally:
Consumer Services: Paytm App, Paytm UPI, and Paytm Gold.
Merchant Solutions: Paytm QR codes, Soundbox devices, and Card Machines (POS).
Financial Platforms: Paytm Payment Gateway, Paytm Money, and other subsidiary-led services.
Financial and Structural Independence
To mitigate market concerns, the company highlighted several key points regarding its relationship with the now-unlicensed payments bank:
Operational Separation: OCL stated it has no material business arrangements with PPBL. None of the current services offered by Paytm are provided in partnership with the bank.
Management Independence: PPBL operates as an independent entity with no board or management involvement from One 97 Communications.
Financial Safeguards: There is no direct financial impact on OCL’s current balance sheet. The company had already impaired its investment in PPBL as of March 31, 2024, accounting for the loss in value at that time.
This development follows a long-standing regulatory transition for the fintech giant. OCL has spent the last two years decoupling its core technology and payment infrastructure from PPBL to ensure business continuity.
The company requested that stakeholders view this regulatory action strictly in the context of PPBL as a separate entity, rather than attributing the license cancellation to the broader Paytm ecosystem.
