Stock markets in India opened the day with sharp gains and continued to trade on a strong clip amid positive global cues. The benchmark Sensex and the Nifty subsequently turned rangebound to finally close the day with gains of over 0.25%. Overseas, shares in Asia and Europe advanced as a relatively dovish turn by the Federal Reserve, strong US jobs data and optism over US-China trade talks boosted investor sentiment. Sectoral performance on the National Stock Exchange was mixed. While the IT, banking and realty indices traded in positive territory, the healthcare and PSU banking indices traded with losses.
