Sical Logistics announces recovery of 4 bodies after Samudrika mishap

Sical Logistics Ltd has announced that 72 hours since the tragic loss of Samudrika 10 off the Bombay high, the coast guard rescuers have recovered 4 bodies near the site. The bodies have been identified.

Family members and next of kin of the deceased have been informed and necessary arrangements for the bodies to reach their families have been made. The family members of the deceased would receive compensation as per their insurance cover and this amount would be matched by the Company. The Company will offer employment opportunities to the next of kin of the deceased and will offer long term support to families who have lost their sole breadwinner.

Search and rescue operations to find the still missing 4 crew are on in full swing. Nine of the crew were rescued and brought back to Mumbai by ONGC on July 09th. Immediate exgratia was provided to all rescued crew by ONGC. After the medical treatment carried out at the Helibase, the Company has taken charge of the rescued crew. The Company is extending its full cooperation to ONGC and the rescue team. The Company is also physically and financially assisting the family members of the crew who have survived and those who have unfortunately lost their lives.

Samudrika 10 had sailed out of Nhava Supply base of ONGC on July 06, 2007. It was on standby mode when it took water around 0100 hrs on July 09th. At 1235 hours, the vessel started sinking by stern. The vessel received several heavy swells as a result of which it went down by stern and could not come back to normal position due to the unexpected shifting of heavy cargo and aggravated weather conditions.

It has been a tragic loss of four of the employees who put in their best in inclement weather of the Bombay High that day. While the loss to the families would be irreparable, the Company will work to ensure that due compensation reaches the next of kin at the earliest.
