Commodity Update - January 8, 2013 - Consortium

Bullion prices slipped as stock markets retreated before this week's start of earnings season, with uncertainty over the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing programme keeping up pressure on the precious metal. Fed officials are increasingly concerned about the potential risks of the U.S. central bank's asset purchases on financial markets.

Base metals prices dropped as market players feared the Fed may not continue to launch easing policies, triggering concerns over the financial stability. The Fed officials remarket indicated that Fed may halt to purchase assets, which will weigh on base metal prices.

Crude oil ended with gains on optimism that the world's biggest economies were on a steady recovery path. Natural gas dropped on late profit booking as weather forecasts began to offer contrasting calls for cooler temperatures to return for much of the U.S.
