Sesa Goa Ltd has announced that as per confirmation received from United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat, Sesa's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project on Waste Heat Recovery Based Power Generation has been successfully registered on April 03, 2007 under "Sesa-Waste Heat Recovery Based Power Generation" (0535). Under the project activity, the Company and Sesa Industries Ltd shall supply all the Coke Oven Flue Gases (from the Coke Oven Plant) and the excess Blast Furnace Gas (from the Pig Iron Plant) respectively to the 30 MW Power Plant that is being set up by Goa Energy Pvt Ltd on "BOO" basis under a Power Agreement entered between the Companies on April 02, 2004.
The registration of the project activity by the UNFCCC establishes the project contribution to the sustainable development of India in the near future.
The project activity will displace the electricity generated from the power generation mix of Western Regional Grid and will result in emission reductions of CO2. The crediting period for the above activity is fixed from January 01, 2007 to December 31, 2016. The revenue generation that would accrue to Sesa would depend upon actual units of power generated and the market price of such credits of each equivalent unit of CO2 reduction.
