              The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 1st February - 10th February 2009 were Rs. 2330.01 crore compared to Rs. 2157.41 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 8 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1465.47 crore during 1st February - 10th February 2008 to Rs. 1607.43 crore during 1st February - 10th February 2009, showing an increase of 9.69 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th February 2009 were Rs. 643.79 crore compared to Rs. 624.18 crore during the same period last year, reflecting a increase of 3.14 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 56.12 crore during this period compared to Rs. 47.93 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 17.09 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th February 2009 were 204.99 million compared to 180.41 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 13.62 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 1-10 February 2009 were 113.62 million and 91.37 million compared to 102.06 million and 78.35 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.33 per cent and an increase of 16.62 per cent respectively.
