Petrotech 2009 concludes successfully, ONGC to Host Petrotech-2011

Petrotech-2009, the premier international Conference & Exhibition in Asia organized by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) came to a successful completion here today. Speaking on the occasion Shri R.S. Pandey, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas announced that the next Mega Event, Petrotech-2011 will be organized by Oil & Natural Gas Commission(ONGC). He pointed out that the Conference deliberated not only on wide ranging issues concerning the exploration, production and supply of the hydrocarbons but also focused on research and development. It also provided an insight into the issues concerning supplies and consumers. The large number of research papers presented during the Conference give an assurance to India and the world about earnest endeavours towards energy security. He also complimented Indian Oil Corporation for taking remarkable painstaking efforts to make the event successful particularly at a difficult time like this.

Shri Pandey also pointed out that the timing of the Conference was very opportune as the world has recently seen highly volatile oil prices which once reached about US$ 147 per barrel and plummeted to US$ 35 in the last six months. Expressing hope that such volatility will not be seen again, he called for some sort of regulation on this account to check speculation.

Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission of India elaborated upon the importance of hydrocarbons amongst the primary sources of energy and pointed to the emerging role of nuclear energy in the years to come. He said that the linkage between the hydrocarbon and nuclear energy would increase as efforts are on to promote use of Hydrogen as a transportation fuel. The nuclear energy which primarily produce electricity would be a significant resource to produce Hydrogen.
