JSW Steel has demonstrated robust growth for the month of May 2026, reporting a consolidated crude steel production of 22.93 lakh tonnes. This achievement marks a significant 15% Year-on-Year (YoY) increase compared to the 19.96 lakh tonnes produced during the same period last year.
A Closer Look at the Production Breakdown
The company's growth trajectory was visible across both its domestic and international footprints:
Indian Operations: Domestic production stood at 21.98 lakh tonnes for May 2026, climbing 15% from the 19.17 lakh tonnes recorded in May 2025.
JSW Steel USA - Ohio: The US-based facility delivered an impressive 20% YoY growth, with production rising to 0.95 lakh tonnes from 0.79 lakh tonnes in the previous year.
Note on Data Comparison: To ensure an accurate Year-on-Year comparison, previous year numbers were adjusted following a corporate restructuring. In March 2026, the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited (BPSL)-a subsidiary of the company-was transferred on a slump-sale basis to the joint venture company, JSW-JFE Steel Limited. Consequently, production figures from the transferred undertaking have been excluded from the May 2025 baseline.
Key Operational Drivers and Capacity Utilisation
The strong performance in May 2026 was primarily driven by the full operational status of the Dolvi unit, where one of the blast furnaces had been down for a planned maintenance shutdown in May 2025. Additionally, performance was bolstered by the full ramping up of JVML operations.
Meanwhile, operations at the Vijayanagar facility experienced temporary adjustments. The Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at the plant is currently shut down for capacity upgradation and is slated to restart in the second fortnight of June 2026.
Despite this temporary shutdown, JSW Steel maintained high operational efficiency. The capacity utilisation for Indian operations during the month stood at approximately 98% when excluding the BF3 capacity, and settled at 87% when including it.
