Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited ("AWHCL"), India's leading integrated solid waste management company, has announced the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Waste to Energy plant at PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) today by the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. This milestone project, implemented by Antony Lara Renewable Energy Private Limited, a material subsidiary of the Company, aligns with Hon. Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, promoting a cleaner and greener India.
The Waste to Energy (WTE) project, located at Moshi, PCMC, will process approximately 1,000 tons of Municipal Solid Waste per day, leading to the recovery of recyclable materials, production of compost, and generation of approximately 14 Megawatts of clean and green energy. Compliant with all environmental emission standards, this initiative sets new benchmarks in responsible and sustainable waste management.
One significant aspect of this project is its association with India's Green Energy Open Access Policy, making PCMC the first municipal corporation to consume the electricity generated by the plant for captive consumption. This approach underscores the commitment of both Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation towards sustainable energy practices.
Chairman & Managing Director of Antony Waste Handling Cell Limited, Mr. Jose Jacob, expressed his elation on the occasion, stating, "Today marks a momentous day for the Company as the honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, graced the occasion with his presence. The inauguration of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Waste to Energy plant marks yet another step in helping India achieve its COP26 sustainable development goals".
Adding further he said "Our mission transcends mere waste management - it envisions a circular economy where waste becomes a catalyst for positive change. The Waste to Energy Project stands as a symbol of excellence, showcasing how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle waste to pave the way for a sustainable future. By diverting waste from landfills at Moshi, we will conserve resources and save an estimated ~7 lakhs tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to ~1.5 lakhs passenger cars' emissions."
The Waste to Energy Project holds particular significance on the global stage. With India's leadership in the G20, serving as a platform for international cooperation and addressing pressing challenges, our initiative exemplifies India's commitment to sustainable practices and showcases the power of innovation in mitigating climate change."
Antony Waste Group remains committed to pursuing efficient waste management practices and the generation of green energy, as demonstrated by this exemplary project. The Company looks forward to further contributing to India's sustainable development journey. With the successful commissioning of the plant, AWHCL is now confident of replicating this technology across India.
