Supreme Court allowed to open Sterlite Copper Plant for upkeep

Vedanta Ltd had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the order of Division Bench of Madras High Court at Chennai vide which the Court had upheld the closure of the Copper Smelter Plant at Thoothukodi.

In this appeal, Company had filed applications seeking reliefs from the Supreme Court to ensure proper upkeep of the Copper Smelter Plant. The applications were taken up for hearing today before the Supreme Court. The Court considered the Report of the High Powered Expert Committee and recommendations of the State Government. The Hon'ble Supreme Court has permitted Vedanta Limited to carry out the activities at the Plant. The matter is listed on 4.5.2023 for further hearing as well as to fix the matter for final hearing.

Shares of Vedanta Limited was last trading in BSE at Rs. 269.80 as compared to the previous close of Rs. 273.35. The total number of shares traded during the day was 926593 in over 14593 trades.

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs. 272.50 and intraday low of 269.00. The net turnover during the day was Rs. 250377644.00.
