ESGRisk.ai, India's first ESG rating agency, has announced the successful conclusion of its second edition of 'ESG India Leadership Awards'. These awards recognised leaders from across 21 ESG themes including overall excellence in Environment, Social, Governance, and reporting Transparency, to celebrate their ESG achievements.
ESGRisk.ai organised a virtual award ceremony on October 12, 2022, to announce and felicitate the winners. The awardees were chosen after a meticulous evaluation of the top 1000 listed companies (by market capitalisation) from across 54 industries, through a well-defined process, after collecting and analysing disclosures, stock exchange releases, annual reports, news and controversies. These awards were purely based on the company's ESG performance, and they did not have to nominate themselves (or pay a fee) to get themselves evaluated for the awards.
Ms Usha Thorat, Chairperson at SEBI's Advisory Committee on Mutual Funds and Financial Benchmarks India Ltd. (FIBL) and former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was the keynote speaker at the awards. She presented insights into how the upcoming BRSR framework will standardise ESG reporting in India and how it will drive ESG consciousness among corporates. Other speakers in the award function included Mr N S Vishwanathan - Chairman at Acuité Ratings & Research Limited, Sr. Fellow of Centre for Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and ex-Deputy Governor at RBI; Ms Sukhman Randhawa - Development Coordination Officer, Partnerships and Development Finance at United Nations and Mr Dhruba Purkayastha, Director at Climate Policy Initiative. These speakers added a 360 o perspective on the ESG landscape in India.
The ESG Yearbook, An Indian perspective - 2022, which is a comprehensive assessment of the top 1000 listed companies across 54 industries on their ESG performance was also unveiled at the awards. The entire report can be downloaded at https://bit.ly/3RVhco8

ESG India Leadership Awards 2022 strengthened our ESG commitment. I congratulate all the winners of the ESG India Leadership Awards 2022 for their unflinching commitment to ESG performance. ESG Yearbook 2022 comprehensively analyses the top 1000 listed companies on their ESG performance. Our assessment indicates that the average ESG disclosure rate of NSE 1000 companies is 58%, while the highest ESG disclosure rate stands at 94%. Over the last year, there has been a significant improvement in the transparency scores of textiles, IT services and the paper and paper products industry. Other industries can improve their transparency through better disclosures. At ESGrisk.ai, we offer a highly successful product - ESG India 360°, which provides a real-time assessment database of the top 1000 listed companies and can be used by investors, bankers and corporates to monitor the ESG performance of businesses in India."
