ICICI Prudential Life Insurance in TOP 20 BSE 100 companies in corporate governance practices

Institutional Investor Advisory Services (IiAS) has shared a report on the top 20 BSE 100 companies with strong corporate governance. As per the data, India Inc. maintained a continuous commitment on enhancing its corporate governance in 2021 despite uncertainties over the Covid-19 pandemic. The study indicates that due to improved disclosures and stewardship practices, the median scores of companies in the BSE 100 index increased marginally to 62 from 61 a year ago. This progress was achieved after a median score of 58 in 2019.

According to the findings of the study, 20 BSE 100 companies fell under 'Leadership' category in 2021, compared to 11 in 2020 and six in 2019. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance has secured a place in it amongst other brands like iBharti Airtel, Cipla, Crompton Greaves, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, HDFC Bank, HDFC Life, Hindustan Unilever, HDFC, ICICI Lombard, Infosys, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Marco, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Steel, Titan, and Wipro.

With developing consciousness of investor's assumptions around governance, organizations will need to pay closer attention to their governance structures. The requirement for boards to pay attention towards all partners has never been as intense as it could be presently. The effect of the pandemic on the employee force has not been consistent across all organisations. There is a basic change in the ways of working, where few employees prefer to work in a hybrid setting while others decide to work remotely. This has constrained organizations to re-evaluate existing ideal models.

The implication is transparent: in the face of pandemic-related uncertainty, companies with better boards of directors will thrive, prosper, and deliver the largest shareholder value. Thoughtful, forward-looking boards with independent thinking, diversity of opinion, and agility will help their companies to outperform the competition.
