The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and edX, the nonprofit online learning destination composed of the leading global institutions of the xConsortium, announced a collaborated launch of HTML5 MOOC today. W3C is the global organization that sets standards for the Web, and for 14 years they have developed and hosted open-source tools used every day by millions of Web developers.
Led by Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and CEO Dr. Jeff Jaffe, W3C unites an international community of member organizations, a full-time staff and the public as they work to lead the Web to its full potential. Focused on collaboration, openness and education, W3C aligns with the edX mission and will help edX learners expand and refine their technical abilities.
W3C's first course on edX, HTML5 Part 1 (https://www.edx.org/course/learn-html5-w3c-w3cx-html5-1x?utm_source=w3c&utm_medium=AdUnit&utm_content=CoursePage&utm_campaign=CoursePage#.VSJqK_yUeJW) , is now open for enrolment. The standard language of the Web, HTML5 was crafted by W3C and the Web community. This course will offer students an opportunity to learn from the experts who helped create HTML5, while practicing its latest features and learning to create rich Web sites and applications.
"We are pleased to welcome the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as a new edX member", said Anant Agarwal, CEO, edX. "W3C is the global organization that sets standards for the Web, and for 14 years they have developed and hosted open-source tools used every day by millions of Web developers. With this partnership, we aim to provide a greater level of exposure to our students, so they can absorb the adeptness at the course directly from the prodigies that contributed in the creation of HTML5."
W3C is jointly run by MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL) in the U.S., the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) headquartered in France, Keio University in Japan, and Beihang University in China, and has additional offices worldwide.
