NCR-based real estate developer Lotus Greens has associated with India's premier educational institution Miranda House to further the cause of sustainability at the college's annual fest tempest, being held from 21st - 22nd February 2014.
The theme of Miranda House Tempest festival this year - "Shades of Green" - bears a special affinity to Lotus Greens' core beliefs and set of values, which are intrinsically linked to sustainable models of development in real estate.
Keeping in view festival's green theme, the students will use waste products to decorate the campus, minimizing the use of paper. The two-day gala will also feature workshops, exhibitions and other activities to address and exemplify ideas of Environment, Sustainable Development, Inclusiveness, Preservation, Diversity, Health, Prosperity and Beauty. Besides, Lotus Greens will also be conducting a sustainability case study competition for students of Miranda House.
Lotus Greens believes that educational institutes are an ideal laboratory for fostering an understanding and appreciation of sustainability and the environment. Although the years spent in campuses are just one of many forces shaping a young person, they can have a big impact not only on a student's understanding of issues like sustainability and climate change, but also on development of the skills and habits of mind needed to successfully tackle them.
Danny Faure, Vice President of Seychelles, in his special video message to the students of Miranda House said "Take your country in your hands, make it beautiful and the way to make it beautiful is to respect the environment. In Seychelles, we have been doing it, we have all our kids in schools educating in the love for the environment, protected and I believe all of you in the schools or out of schools will be able to take care of the environment."
"Sustainability is a very important issue where there exists plenty of room for policy changes, regulations, setting of standards and pricing. I think that if policies can put all these different elements together, we can very easily have a situation where people will start doing things differently and actually reduce the demand for energy and other scarce resources like water." advised Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Vice Chairman, Planning Commission of India in his video message. Dignitaries from countries like Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Bhutan, through specially recorded messages, expressed their happiness on sustainability being chosen as the theme for this year's theme for Tempest.
Connecting with the young generation on issues of environment and sustainability is an important element of Lotus Greens' plan for taking forward its vision of equipping the coming generation with the knowledge and skills to cut carbon emissions, save natural resources, and work towards creation of a green economy and clean environment. "In helping to develop awareness and understanding of different interpretations of sustainability among students from an early age, we are working towards creation of a new generation that will be ready to stand up and be counted on matters of Ecology, Economy and Energy, and grow up to guide the country's future use of energy and resources in the best possible sustainable way," says P. Sahel, Vice Chairman, Lotus Greens.
By extending its whole-hearted support to youth platforms in schools and colleges, Lotus Greens seeks to promote and propagate sustainability concepts in ways that are interesting and easy to understand so that more and more students come forward to become motivated spokespeople of sustainability.
