Indian equities settled on a buoyant note tracking gains in European markets with Sensex breaching 19,000 mark. Metal, oil & gas and capital goods led the rally. Midcap and Smallcap index outperformed the benchmark indices.
Nifty closed at 5748.10 up by 43.70points or 0.77% over the previous day closing of 5704.40 after witnessing a low of 5687.15 and a high of 5754.60. Sensex closed at 19040.95 up by 176.20points or 0.93% over the previous day closing of 18864.75.It touched an intraday low of 18826.53 and high of 19060.51.
The markets' breadth was positive. Out of 2896 stocks traded 1953 stocks advanced, 827 stocks declined and 116 stocks remained unchanged. In Sensex, Out of 30 stocks 23 stocks advanced and 07 stocks declined.
Among the sectors, BSE Metal, BSE Oil & Gas and BSE Capital Goods were the main gainers of the day, which increased by 2.07%, 1.99% and 1.88% respectively.
In BSE Metal sector JSW Steel, Sterlite Industries and Sesa Goa increased by 5.33%,3.79% and 3.61% respectively. In BSE Oil & Gas sector PetronetLNG, Cairn India, and ONGC advanced by 3.42%,2.94% and 2.76% respectively. In BSE Capital Goods sector Jindal Saw, BEML, and Alstom T&D increased by 10.06%, 8.44% and 5.09% respectively.
