Asian markets trading mixed as Sony Corp reports loss - AXISDirect

Tracking soft cues from global peers the markets opened on a negative note but soon moved to the positive zone in the morning session. However the markets slipped lower by noon session and attempted a recovery in the afternoon trade but selling pressure led the markets to close with moderate losses. Among the sectoral Consumer Durables lost more than 3% while IT witnessed marginal buying. In the Sensex stocks M&M (1.26%), TCS (1.20%) and Tata Motors (0.89%) were among the gainers while Sterlite Inds (2.92%), NTPC (2.72%) and Cipla (2.61%) were among the losers. The Sensex lost 59 points or 0.30% to close at 19,580 while the Nifty lost 20 points or 0.34% to close at 5,939.

Total traded turnover stood at Rs 129,210 cr. In equities FIIs were net buyers of (Rs 827cr) while DIIs were net sellers of (Rs 990 cr). On the derivatives side, FIIs were net sellers in Index Futures (Rs 105 cr) Stock Options (Rs 121 cr) while they turned net buyers in Index Options (Rs 729 cr) Stock Futures (Rs 617 cr).

The US markets ended lower as comment from ECB president that rising value of the euro as a threat to the region's economy, overshadowed positive US jobless claims data. The Dow Jones lost 42 points or 0.30% to close at 13,944 while the NASDAQ lost 3 points or 0.11% to close at 3,165.

The Asian markets are trading mixed. Nikkei is trading lower by 1.39% while Hang Seng is trading higher by 0.09%.

Asian markets are trading mixed as Sony corp reported unexpected loss however China exports rose more than estimated in January indicating growth rebound in China. Indian Indices are also expected to open on a flat note and global developments will be closely watched for further direction.
