The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 11th December – 20th December 2009 were Rs. 2325.73 crore compared to Rs. 2188.81 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 6.26%.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1522.61 crore during 11th December – 20th December 2008 to Rs. 1642.78 crore during 11th December – 20th December 2009, showing an increase of 7.89%. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 11th to 20th December 2009 were Rs. 603.40 crore compared to Rs. 591.44 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 2.02%. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 60.29 crore during this period compared to Rs. 57.51 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.83%.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th December 2009 were 198.44 million compared to 204.26 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 2.85%. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 11–20 December 2009 were 107.08 million and 91.36 million compared to 114.32 million and 89.94 million during the same period last year, registering a decrease of 6.33% and an increase of 1.58% respectively.
