BOA approves 9 new SEZs

The Board of Approval of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) met here today to consider proposals for setting up of Special Economic Zones and also to approve other miscellaneous requests pertaining to SEZs.

Addressing the Board of Approval members, the Chairman informed that so far 560 formal approvals have been granted for setting up of SEZs out of which 286 have been notified as on date. He informed that over Rs. 1,01,906 crores have been invested in the Special Economic Zones during the short span of time. Direct employment of the order of 3,66,333 persons have been generated in the Special Economic Zones.

In this meeting, 25 proposals for setting up of SEZ were considered. The Board recommended grant of 9 Formal approvals and 1 in-principle approval.

Formal Approvals:

- Biotech SEZ in Andhra Pradesh
- IT/ITES SEZ in Maharashtra
- Gems and Jewellery SEZ in Maharashtra
- IT/ITES SEZ in Uttar Pradesh
- FTWZ SEZ in Uttar Pradesh
- Non-conventional Energy Sources SEZ in Kerala
- Heavy Engineering SEZ in Tamil Nadu
- Biotech SEZ in Haryana
- Food Processing SEZ in Gujarat

In-Principle Approval:

Power SEZ in Maharashtra

Among other items, 11 proposals for grant of co-developer status were also approved including 5 proposals in the multi-product SEZ by M/s. Mundra Port and SEZ Ltd. Integration of three existing SEZs of M/s. Mundra Port and SEZ Ltd. Was also approved by the Board. The integrated SEZ will have an area of about 6215 hectares.
