Vayalar Ravi invites NRIs to invest in India

The Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Mr. Vayalar Ravi today invited NRI Investors to invest in India, assuring them that the Indian economy is poised to grow despite global economic crisis. He also assured them that problems, if any, related to investments by the Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in the country would be sorted out and all bottlenecks removed.
Speaking on the sidelines of the first day of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Chennai today, he said, the Prime Minister's recent announcement of a stimulus package to rekindle the economy would help the country to tide over the crisis.
The Minister said, India continues to enjoy the confidence of global investors and it retains its position as an attractive destination for foreign direct investments. He said the government is paying special attention to the promotion of language and culture which are the major roots for the NRIs and PIOs.
The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, Mr. V. Narayanasamy, who inaugurated the exhibition, said that the interests of NRIs and PIOs will be protected through various steps which are being put in place by the Government. Replying to a question on reports of violence against women by their NRI husbands, he said that a special session has been organized in this conference to find the ways and means of checking the trend.
Both the ministers went around the stalls in the exhibition. Over 75 pavilions have been put up that includes 12 states, several banks and IT companies. Apart from this, various Central and State Departments, Health, Hospitality, Handicrafts, Plantation, Telecom and Media Industries showcase their products and services being offered by them. State pavilions strive to attract potential investors by way of portraying various incentives and facilities they offer. Non-Governmental Organizations also utilize the exhibition to promote their activities across the globe.
The exhibition is open for visitors till the end of the mega annual event for overseas Indians and people of Indian origin.
