The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved westwards, weakened into a depression and lay centred at 0530 hours IST of today, the 07th December 2008 near Lat. 8.50 N and Long. 83.00 E, about 450 km east-southeast of Adiramapatinam, 600 km southeast of Chennai and 180 km east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka).
The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction across north Sri Lanka and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Tuticorin and Nagapattinam, close to Tondi by 8th December, 2008 morning.
Under its influence, rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry during next 48 hours.
Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are likely along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts during next 24 hours.
Sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
