Cyclone alert for Tamil Nadu coast as deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moves ahead

Chennai Cyclone Depression RainThe deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal moved westwards and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 06th December, 2008 over southwest Bay of Bengal near Lat. 8.50 N and Long. 85.00 E, about 650 km eastsoutheast of Adiramapatinam, 750 km southeast of Chennai and 400 km east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka).

The system is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction across north Sri Lanka and cross Tamilnadu coast between Tuticorin and Nagapattinam, close to Adiramapatinam by 8th December, 2008 morning.

Under its influence, rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over coastal Tamil Nadu & Puducherry commencing from today the 6th December,2008 night.

Squally winds speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph are likely along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts commencing from tomorrow, the 7th December,2008 morning.

Sea condition will be very rough to high along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
