Cyclonic Storm "NISHA" to cross Vedaranniyam Coast in few hours

The deep depression over southwest Bay of Bengal concentrated into Cyclonic storm "NISHA" and lay centred at 830 hours IST of today, the 26th November 2008 near lat. 10.50 N and long. 80.00 E, about 50 km southeast of Nagapattinam. The system is likely to intensify further and move in a northwesterly direction and cross Tamilnadu coast near Vedaranniyam within a few hours.

Under its influence, rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls is likely over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during next 24 hours. Rainfall at many places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is also likely over Kerala during the same period.

Squally winds speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are likely along and off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts during next 24 hours. Sea condition is very rough to high along and off these coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.

Local cautionary signal number Three (LC-III) kept hoisted at CHENNAI, ENNORE, CUDDALORE, PUDUCHERRY, NAGAPATTINAM, PAMBAN AND RAMESWARAM PORTS.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off Tamilnadu and Puducherry coast.
