Gail India Ltd has announced that Company's Dahej Vijaipur Pipeline (DVPL) Project has been awarded the Silver Medal in the Mega Projects category by the International Project Management Association (IPMA) during the 20th IPMA World Congress held in Shanghai recently. From among the Indian Companies, which had participated for the mega projects category of IPMA World Congress at Shanghai, the Company's DVPL project has been rated as the best executed project.
DVPL is the largest diameter cross country onshore pipeline for transportation of high pressure gas so far executed in India. The pipeline passes through Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
This is yet another major recognition for the DVPL Project that has already been recognized as "a brilliantly executed project" by the NPMP (National Petroleum Management Programme) Award 2005 in the Enterprise Category.
The DVPL Project comprises 610 KM trunk pipeline of 47" diameter and has a throughput capacity of 23 MMSCMD which can be upgraded to 45 MMSCMD with the installation of intermediate compressor stations at Jhabua and Vijaipur. The Dahej - Vijaipur Pipeline Project was completed in a record period of 27.5 months against a target date of 33 months. The Project was completed five and a half months ahead of schedule, resulting into a cost saving of more than Rs 700 crore. This task was made possible by meticulous planning both at micro and macro levels and through innovative administrative structures like installation and usage of video conferencing facilities and INMARSAT linkages with the widely dispersed site locations, real time tracking of material movements, reduction of ordering cycle time due to zero deviation tenders and others.
