The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited has been awarded the 5 Star Rated Mines Award, by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India for the financial year 2022-23, for its Mining Lease No.2678 under Sustainable Development Framework.
Assessment of Mining Leases under Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) was introduced by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Ministry of Coal & Mines, Government of India from the financial year 2014-15. SDF evaluates the Mining Leases on the following criteria:
(a) Carrying out Scientific and Systematic Mining
(b) Progress on Progressive and Final Mine Closure
(c) Addressing resettlement and rehabilitation, issues, local community engagements and welfare programmes
(d) Implementation of green energy source, cleanliness drive and mining software
(e) Reporting processes as per international standards.
1,256 Mining Leases across the country were assessed for the financial year 2022-23 and 68 Mining Leases secured 5 Star Rating.

Kishan Reddy - Hon'ble Union Minister for Coal & Mines and Satish Chandra Dubey - Hon'ble Minister of State for Coal & Mines have presented 5 Star Awards to all the 68 Mining Leases, at a Felicitation Programme organised by IBM on 7 August 2024 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. Mohammed Abdul Saleem - Non-Executive Director and Manjunath Prabhu - Chief Operating Officer of the Company have received the 5 Star Award on behalf of the Company.
It is pertinent to mention that the Company has been receiving 5 Star Awards since the inception of SDF and this is the 9th consecutive year that the Company received this 5 Star Award.
