Indian indices opened on a negative note with Nifty below 15700. At the time of closing, market erases losses to end marginally lower where Sensex down by 111.01 points or 0.21% at 52,907.93 & Nifty down by 28.20 points or 0.18% at 15,752.05.
During the day, Gross GST collections for June were at Rs 1.44 lakh crore. The market cap of the Diamond & Jewellery sector fell 6.76% after the import duty tax on gold was hiked by 5% to 12.5%. The government levied Rs 6 per litre tax on ATF exports, Rs 6 per liter tax on petrol exports and Rs 13 per liter on diesel exports. Output of 8 core infrastructure sectors in India expanded by 18.1% in May against 16.4% in the year-ago period. China's manufacturing activity expanded at its fastest in 13 months in June, buoyed by a strong rebound in output. Japan's factory activity growth slows in June - PMI. US Consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of US economic activity, gained 0.2% in May, the smallest rise in five months. Data for April was revised down to show outlays increasing 0.6% instead of 0.9% as previously reported. After a flat start Indian rupee is trading at a fresh record low of 79.12 per dollar. There's no exemption on SEZ units from duty hike. Windfall tax will be applicable on SEZ & EOU units. On the sectoral front, Realty and FMCG indices up 1%-2%, while oil & gas index shed 3%.
Nifty 50 top gainers are ITC, Bajaj Finance, BajajFinSV, Cipla & BPCL while ONGC, Reliance, powerGrid BajajAuto & BhartiArtl were among the top losers.
