Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India has awarded Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar, National Safety Award (Mines) to the Company's Deogiri Manganese & Iron Ore Mine for the year 2017. The award was presented by Hon'ble Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India on 8 March 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and the same has been received on behalf of the Company by Bahirji A. Ghorpade, Managing Director along with Dodda Obanna, the senior most Headman from the Mines.
It is pertinent to note that the Company had received the National Safety Awards (Mines) six times on earlier occasions. The Safety Award presented to the Company now as a "Winner" in the "Lowest Injury Frequency Rate" is after a period of 26 years. The Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE) is the only major minerals mining company in the State receiving National Safety Award this year.
The National Safety Award (Mines) was instituted in 1983 by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, with a view to promote a competitive spirit amongst mine operators for the betterment of safety standards in mines and to give due recognition to outstanding safety performance at the national level.
