HCL showcases integrated approach of IT & Engineering Services to the Aerospace Industry

HCL Technologies Ltd has announced that it will be highlighting its integrated approach to the aerospace industry, debuting at this years Farnborough Airshow.

Following a period of consolidation, the Company has developed and been delivering a set of core avionics skills that enable the off-shoring of complete subsystems. This proven core skill set includes software engineering, hardware engineering, FPGA design and verification, and mechanical design and analysis. Customers benefiting from the expertise include Boeing, with whom the Company´s works on the prestigious 787 Dreamliner project along with Boeing´s tier 1 suppliers, BAe and Volvo Aero.

The Company will share details of its innovative partnership systems which combine a multiservice integrated engagement model with the use of output-based pricing schemes to share the commercial risk of aircraft manufacture and development between the Company and its customers.

India is set to become one of the biggest aerospace markets in the world with imports projected to top £150 bn in 10 years and (this doesn´t read right) investment in the western fighter aircraft platform. As Annual passenger numbers are expected to reach 50 million by 2008, the demand for aircraft is substantial requiring expert engineering and design support from suppliers. Airbus currently delivers an aircraft per month to India and Boeing is in the midst of developing 50 aircraft for Air India. Recently ranked as number 5 in the 20 Indian IT software and services exporters, the Company has been instrumental in developing the rapidly growing Indian aerospace market and has extensive expertise in both hardware and software development and this has led to the development of an integrated, end-to-end offering.

The Company´s focus on the engineering services space is matched by an aggressive target of over 150 per cent growth throughout the financial year. This includes the establishment of a design centre for an aerospace Tier-1 company, which will have in excess of 100-150 engineers.

Martin Hunt, head of the Company´s European Engineering and Aerospace division Comments:

"We are in the midst of exciting and explosive growth. NASSCOM estimates that the market size of the aerospace technology outsourcing market in India to be currently about US$ 150 million, and predicts in the next 4 years that it will be worth US $1 billion. At present 18% of our hi-tech and manufacturing revenue is derived from the aerospace industry. However, given the exciting growth of the Indian aerospace market, and the growing interest in aerospace development offshoring, we anticipate this to figure to reach 30% within the next five years. HCL will continue to grow with this industry"

"HCL was the first Indian company to be awarded the AS91OO certification and has the technical capability to undertake end-to-end developments of complex real-time electronic systems for both aircraft manufacture as well as the complete supply chain."

"We have never lost an aerospace client and by providing an integrated offering that includes end-to-end engineering services; technical publications, sustenance and value engineering, business process outsourcing and ERP, we will drive HCL further into this market."

"Our innovative integrated service offerings coupled with novel commercial agreements assist our clients to undertake business level transformations, providing them with the opportunity to reposition themselves within the aerospace market."
