GMR subsidiary DIAL Appoints Project Management Consultant

GMR Infrastructure Ltd has announced that the Board of Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd decided to appoint US based Parsons Brinkerhoff International Inc. (PB) as Project Management Consultant for Delhi Airport Modernisation Project, in its board meeting held here Last evening. The modernisation of the Indira Gandhi International Airport involves construction of new runway, terminal building and other infrastructure.

Parsons Brinkerhoff would help DIAL on Design Review, Contract Management, Project Controls, Project Management and Coordination. In addition they would also be working with DIAL on Construction Management of the Passenger Terminal Building, Airside a Landside Works for the Delhi Airport project.

Parsons Brinkerhoff is a world renowned consultancy having worked on some prestigious projects across the world like Hong Kong International Airport, London Heathrow T5, Terminal1 at JFK Airport and Washington Dulles Airport.

In India Parsons Brinkerhoff is providing program management services to Delhi Metro (for Phase I as well as phase II). Delhi Metro has set standards in projects management in terms of quality and timeliness. PB has also worked on the Swami Vivekanand Bridge project on Hoogly river in Kolkata.

For the Delhi Airport Parsons Brinkerhoff will put together a team of international and local experts who will be involved in establishing project control systems, procedure manuals, communication platforms and protocols, report formats, computer systems, etc. This team would consist of senior consultants in aviation sector having wide ranging experience in airport construction and management.

DIAL has recently submitted the Master Plan to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India for the modernization and restructuring of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As part of the Master Plan, DIAL will construct a new runway by 2008 to supplement the existing two. In addition a brand-new integrated passenger terminal to cater to domestic and international traffic will also be built. This terminal will become operational in March 2010 and in its first phase be able to handle more than 37 million passengers per annum. The new building would be connected to the city via a dedicated high speed Metro Line.
