This International Women's Day, PNB Housing Finance has announced a partnership with a Delhi-based NGO, Azad Foundation, under a programme called 'Women with Wheels'. This unique partnership will facilitate underprivileged women gain driving skills and become independent cab drivers to lead a self-sufficient life with dignity and pride.
Under this partnership, PNB Housing Finance will be donating electric cars in Jaipur and Indore that will help women in these cities to earn their livelihood and become financially independent. This initiative will generate an annual income of around Rs 4.5 lakhs for the women drivers and it will also generate about 10000 safe rides for women passengers, making public transport safer for women.
PNB Housing Finance Managing Director and CEO Hardayal Prasad and Azad Foundation Co Founder and COO Shrinivas Rao signed a letter of intent to this effect. This partnership is a part of PNB Housing's CSR project called 'SHE', it's a nationwide initiative developed to create entrepreneurship opportunities for women and promote awareness on Sanitation, Health & Education. Given the quantum and extent of women's problems in the country, the state and civil society cannot alone solve the problem. There is a need for multiple development initiatives to produce a ripple effect of actions towards establishing gender parity. Women have been in the centrestage for the development of any economy, hence its extremely important to address the core issues they are facing today in terms of proper sanitation, their good health and importance of education.
Under the 'Women with Wheels' programme, training will be conducted amongst women in the age bracket of 18-35 years living in urban slums and re-settlement colonies. The 6-8 months of training includes not just the technical training ( driving related ) but also training on self development and rights based awareness.
Elaborating upon this partnership Mr. Hardayal Prasad said, "PNB Housing Finance is committed to create a safe and inclusive environment with equal opportunities for the women to break gender barriers. As part of this socio-economic objective, we are happy to launch this programme on this International Women's Day and empower women to become self-reliant, achieve financial independence and shape their own future. Going forward, we will continue to support similar initiatives that will help improve lives of women and give them the respect and dignity they deserve."
PNB Housing Finance is actively involved in creating opportunities for women across the marginalised sections of the society through knowledge and skills training, and providing them with various resources to earn a sustainable livelihood.
