New Delhi, April 14, 2008: National Real Estate Development Council(NAREDCO) the leading real estate body is organising a National Conference on 'Affordable Housing for All' to be held in Capital on 21st & 22nd April 2008 as part of its 8th National Convention. The conference will be supported by Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India and UN Habitat.
In the wake of paucity for low cost housing in the country, the highlight of the conference will be to address major issues pertaining to affordability of housing with special emphasis on housing for poor. Other issues to be discussed in the conference will be Finance and Taxation in the real estate industry, legal and regularity reforms needed, demand and supply of commercial space in the country and also the use of new Materials, Innovative & Appropriate Technology and Disaster Management in Housing.
The high profile conference will be attended by speakers from Government, Public and Private sectors who will present the housing and construction scenario in different parts of the country. Several state Ministers and concerned Secretaries from States will address participants in special sessions.
“Over a billion people around the world live in appalling conditions of urban slums. In India alone, about 100 million persons live in slum-like conditions without adequate basic facilities such as piped water, sanitation, schools, health, and so on. Thus it is imperative for us to realize the objective of National and State Urban Housing and Habitat Policies and jointly come together to win over the biggest challenge of providing affordable housing. The Conference will aim to put across all the factors that can bring about a catalytical change in the housing scenario and make it affordable for all. “Mr Rohtas Goel, Chairman, NAREDCO and CMD, Omaxe Ltd said in a statement issued today.
Rapid Urbanisation in the country over the years has led to the problem of affordable housing in the country. Developers and industry majors have always seek support from the Government to overcome the problem. The conference organised by NAREDCO will serve as a platform to present the views of the industry leaders and to discuss the best possible ways to tackle in problem in least possible time.
Kumari Selja, the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India would be present in her capacity as Chief Patron of the Council. Chief Ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttrakhand, UP, MP and Chattishgarh have also been invited to address the conference.
